Mark Your Calendars: DC Shorts Rewind

Are you an avid movie lover? Get ready for a weekend of films featuring favorites from the last seven years of DC Shorts, Best of the 2010 Fest, Free Family Films and a wide variety of showcases.

This new concept of DC Shorts Rewind provides the perfect opportunity to catch films viewers have missed from previous festivals. On January 28 and 29, the Atlas Performing Arts Center will host the DC Shorts Rewind. Showcased in multiple theaters, provides something for everyone including comedies, documentaries, dramas, animation and films by local and foreign filmmakers. In addition to enjoying the weekend full of films, attendees are encouraged to visit neighborhood restaurants and bars offering festival specials and opportunities for free tickets through the “neighborhood pass.”

Mark Your Calendars: DC Shorts Film Fest Kicks Off Next Week

Have you decided what films you'll be seeing during next week's DC Shorts Film Fest? You only have a week left to pick your poison(s)!

In case you're unfamiliar,  the DC Shorts Film Festival is Washington, D.C.’s only festival celebrating short films. It returns September 9-16, 2010 with a new group of goodies for movie-goers. Voted best festival by Washington City Paper, DC Shorts boasts a wide array of films that run the gamut in genre, style and subject, but are unified by one common thing – their length of 20 minutes or less.

This year the festival features 97 films from an unprecedented 11 countries. The DC-area remains strongly represented with 11 locally-produced films on the roster. There will be nine different showcases screened throughout the week, each featuring approximately two hours of films lasting from one minute – 20 minutes. The showcases range in content with something for everyone, including dramas, comedies, animation, sci-fi, documentaries and experimental films. 

A free family-friendly showcase will be shown at both locations on Saturday, September 11 in conjunction with Penn Quarter’s Arts on Foot event. These films are suitable for children ages eight and up and a parental guide to films is available on the DC Shorts website.

The fun at DC Shorts doesn’t end with the films. Celebrate opening night among the stars at the Celebrity Party mixing and mingling with filmmakers from around the world and Oscar winner, Roger Ross Williams at Madame Tussaud’s. The festivities continue with Friday’s Grand Bash on the U.S. Navy Memorial Plaza where dancing and custom t-shirts continue until midnight.
