Say Yum: Buzz Bakery Opens in Ballston

Deacon made a trip over to the new Buzz Bakery this morning and we're proud to report that it's just as cute as the original. From pies to cupcakes to cookies to savory items like sandwiches and evening cocktails, this bakery and cafe is a much-needed addition to the neighborhood and compliments new restaurants in the corridor like Sweetgreen and Rustico.

“We’re fortunate to be able to open a second Buzz Bakery. The success we’ve had with this concept can be credited to a devout following of loyal guests, for which we are extremely grateful,” said Michael Babin, owner of Buzz Bakery and Neighborhood Restaurant Group. “We want to expand on the upbeat experience that’s become Alexandria’s trademark while personalizing the space to the Ballston community.”
For the first time, Buzz will offer take-home ice creams and sorbets in an assortment of flavors including Brown Sugar-Oatmeal and PB Crunch – peanut butter ice cream with bits of PB toffee and chocolate dipped pretzel chunks. Buzz plans to roll out summer popsicles including Apricot-Chamomile, Kiwi-Basil, Grape-Elderflower and Strawberry-Passion Fruit, as well as Chocolate-dipped Bananas and Pudding Pops. There are also new take-and-bake items in the freezer including cookies, sausage-cheddar biscuits and manchego scones.

Additions to the breakfast menu include Homemade Whole-Wheat Pop Tarts available daily in a variety of seasonal flavors including Lemon-Poppy Seed, Sour Cherry Cheesecake and Strawberry Cheesecake. We're itching to try their Belgian style waffles, available in two choices – plain or bacon & toffee-studded.

We sampled their breakfast brioche, a sweet and savory mixture of eggs, cheese and fluffy brioche, as well as a skinny latte, prepared just to our specifications with new coffee provider MadCap coffee. The free Wi-Fi, ample seating both indoors and out, and friendly staff make this a place we'll return again and again.
