Luxe Life: Harriet Kassman Closing Memo

In case you didn't catch it earlier this week, DC style maven and owner of the eponymous clothing store Harriet Kassman has decided to retire and close her store for good. It's a sad day for DC, but thankfully we'll at least benefit from great sale prices for a few weeks. Check out the full memo, below:

I wonder how much of the merchandise she's selling she actually paid for.

She hasn't paid me for over a year.

Thief.

To both anonymous posters. I make it a point to publish all comments that are not spam coming through my site. However, if these atrocious acts truly did occur, I would kindly ask that you identify yourselves so that other concerned parties can contact you and even band together to take legal action.

As a note to other Deacon readers, publishing of these comments in no way denotes verification. My personal experience ( as a shopper) has been nothing but pleasant at HK.

Best,
Deacon

Dear Deacon: I am the second anonymous comment writer. Just wanted to let you know that she owes us close to $10K part of which has been past due for almost two years. Every time we would call she would promise that the matter would be resolved shortly. Since we have known and respected Harriet personally for a number of years, we always trusted that she would fulfill her promises. What is truly offensive about this situation is that she basically took advantage of our trust - we never even received $1 towards the past due amount. When after almost a year of calling we had not made any progress, we had to turn over the matter to a collection agency but even they were not able to get payment. We are not a big company and Harriet knows this. We still hope that she will have the decency to settle this matter before she closes her doors for good. But, from what we have seen so far, that seems to be the last thing on her mind. Whatever esteem we held for her as a person and as a business-woman has been severely compromised. I am sure if she is reading this column she knows who we are.
