Luxe Life: Scotch, Scotch Scotch

Earlier this week, Deacon had the chance to mix and mingle with the lovely ladies and gents of Johnnie Walker at their exclusive Blue Label tasting and enrgraving party in Union Station. Not only did we get to enjoy cocktails with the $220-a-bottle Blue Label, but we also got the chance to sample the $550 King George V edition and the incredibly rare $3,500 per bottle 200-year Anniversary Blend edition, which includes a Baccarat crystal bottle, valued at $900 just for the glass!

Master Whiskey Experts taught us the best way to sip (neat or with a splash of water, with a sip of filtered water before to refresh the palate) as well as the difference between cask and distillation processes of different varieties of the Johnnie Walker blend. For example, both the Blue Label and King George have water added during the bottling process that results in a consistent ABV and a smooth taste. The Anniversary Blend is bottled with a much higher alchohol content and without water, resulting in what equates to a 120-something proof whiskey. It should be sipped with a few drops of water to open up the taste and unique flavor notes.

Deacon fully admits to being a scotch virgin, so this was quite the way to become introduced! If you're interested in enjoying your own bottle, Johnnie Walker is offering a COMPLIMENTARY engraving service on their Blue Label bottles at Union Station throughout the holiday season. Visit their booth near Thunder Grill and gift yourself or a loved one with a holiday message of up to 45 characters (15 each on 3 lines) in languages including English, Spanish and Chinese. Unfortunately, they aren't selling the bottles onsite, so you'll have to BYO from a licensed liquor store. Aged 21 and up only, please.

We're not confirming, but there just might be a bottle under our own tree for someone special ...

This event was amazing--- although the top shelf scotch was hard to swallow (literally). Thanks for letting me pal along!
