Thanks to our dear friend Tommy McFly, we had the exclusive chance to attend a private concert on Monday from the one and only Rob Thomas, the now-solo artist who once fronted Matchbox 20.
We were tickled to enjoy the show and to meet Rob, who was surprisingly funny and down-to-earth. He dished about the first song he ever loved (the infamous 3 a.m.) and the best track on his new album, cradlesong, which he calls "a happy little ditty about death."
We liked him even more after he admitted that he and his wife are dog people and own two rescued pups.
But the best part, perhaps, was the acoustic concert, where he performed favorites like Lonely No More, 3 a.m., and his new hit, Her Diamonds, sounding even better live than he does on his CDs.
See more deets in Tuesday's Bisnow and Tommy's Local Kicks writeup.
It was certainly a guilty pleasure afternoon - their first Matchbox 20 release was one of the first CDs we played on repeat in our car, and it still often finds its way into our CD player.
