Say Yum: Scotch, Scotch, Scotch
Deacon's not personally a fan of dark liquors, but we know plenty of people who are, so it seemed fitting to let everyone know about the grand opening of The Scotch Bar at the Round Robin Bar in the Willard Intercontinental, one of our fave hotels in DC.
In addition to the newly-decorated lobby, opened just in time for inaugural events, the Scotch bar promises to feature one of the largest single malt collections in the region, including more than 100 types available by the glass.
The whiskeys represented highlight Scotland's six distinct regions, with an emphasis on quality and age. Sample a quarter-ounce (tot) for between $3 and $20 per pour or design your own tasting flight with two or more beverages. The truly thirsty (or true connoisseurs, depending on how you put it) can elect for one-ounce pours, called drams, for between $10 and $75 each.
Seriously, $75 an ounce? We'd rather have a steak, thanks very much. But I guess if that's your thing...
For the truly big spenders, a select Prestige Collection features the rarest and finest Whiskies available in the Washington DC, including Glenmorangie, Caol Ila and the Macallan, all 25-year old, and a King George V Blue Label, over 60 years old.
For those not sure they can take it straight up, a collection of classic Whiskey cocktails are also offered, such as the Rob Royale made with malt whiskey, honey and champagne, and the Silver Bullet, a "dusty" martini made with Gin and Scotch, are available for $14 per serving.
You'll find us there next weekend, boyfriend in tow, drinking a vodka soda, while he goes on a veritable beverage tour of Scotland. At least one of us will be having fun :-)
The Scotch Bar at Round Robin is open from 4:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. seven days a week, 202-637-7348.
