In Other News: Michelle Obama chooses Isabelle Toledo for Inauguration - but what about that ball?

Deacon isn't an especially political pup, but heck, history is being made. Michelle Obama, soon-to-be First Lady, has chosen Isabelle Toledo, a Cuban-born designer, for her inaugural day dress. Toldeo is a favorite of the soon-to-be first lady, who has already been labeled a fashion-forward dresser.

The mustard-colored sheath, accented with a jeweled neckline, appears stunningly bright on television, and what appears to be brocade or some sort of floral pattern with shimmering threads adds a festive touch to the day. It's admittedly a striking combination, and on other occasions I would champion the choice. But it's not quite the right choice, however, as it's almost SO bright as to take away from her husband's simple suit and red tie.

But Mrs. Obama has succeeded in what she surely set out to do - make a fashion statement. She appears vibrant and young, surely something the masses on the Mall desire to see. However, the gift she brought Laura Bush is surely something that goes a long way to endearing her to the Martha Stewart's of the world - a sign of hospitality and good manners that America surely needs to see.

Jill Biden, on the other hand, chose a bright red coat with knee-high boots - she looks fresh and young, although perhaps a bit informal for such a momentous occasion.

Laura Bush, in a dove gray suit buttoned to the neck, on the other hand, appears a bit, shall we say, boring, but she compliments her husband's blue tie and dark blue suit quite nicely.

More to come tonight, as we offer a first glimpse of the First Lady's inaugural gown.
