Say Yum: Zola Wine and Kitchen now open

Back when we were in college (which really wasn't that long ago at all) a splurge dinner was often spent at chic American resto Zola. We loved the proximity to the Spy Museum and the way cool rotating door to the restrooms.

Now, we're excited to check out the just-opened Zola Wine & Kitchen, the latest project from the team at Star Restaurant Group. It's just steps from Zola, and promises to serve as the "tasting lab" for chef Bryan Moscatello's additions to the Zola menu as well as his new Italian resto, opening in the Woodies building in February.

The wine shop promises around 6,000 vinos from 'round the world from more than 400 varieties. Four unique "food columns" help novice oenophiles pair vintages to specific food types like Asian and barbeque, as well as select that perfect bottle for holiday dinners. A variety of wine magazines and tasting materials are also available for perusal and purchase.

You'll also find an extensive selection of pre-wrapped sandwiches and gourmet products, perfect for a "grab and go" picnic. We've been told that items will include dishes like rare roast veal with braised mushrooms, tarragon and truffle mayo on a salt and pepper roll as well as charcuterie boards.

If you're lucky enough to sneak in, the adjacent test kitchen also features seating for 30 in a private banquet room that overlooks the kitchen space.

Looking to test your skills against the masters? Cooking classes are held on select Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and themed seasonal classes are planned on Saturdays from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Photos coming soon, we promise!
