Just three hours from DC, one of our fave properties is the luxe boutique hotel Keswick Hall. Now the 48-room property is getting even more of a draw- it’s own onsite vineyard! Grapes from the vineyard will produce a private-label blend and allow guests to enjoy an interactive wine experience at the property. The first planting is a Petit Manseng, a rare grape originally grown in the Gironde region of Southwestern France. The first harvest expected in the fall of 2011 or 2012 and should yield a white wine flavored with apricot and quince fruits with both spicy and floral notes. You’ll have to wait awhile, but the half-acre vineyard should yield between 100 and 125 cases in its first run.
The hotel will continue to produce its first private label blends, a Chardonnay and Petit Verdot, both grown offsite at other Virginia Vineyards.
