Say Yum: Doggie Bags

If there's one thing Deacon loves, it's a good doggie bag. Well, he's in luck. DC has recently passed a law that allows patrons to leave a restaurant with a bottle of unfinished vino, provided that the product is appropriately packaged.

So one of our fave restaurants, Proof, has taken the idea and run with it. They're offering "Merlot to Go."

In accordance with the Council’s legislation, Proof will reseal the bottle, attach a dated receipt and package the bottle in one of its wine doggie bags that have been outfitted with special adhesive seals.

With over 1,100 bottles of wine in the restaurant, this looks like the beginning of a beautiful journey.

If readers know of any other restaurants that have a similar deal, be sure to let us know in the comments section.

Proof, 775 G Street, NW, Gallery Place/Chinatown. 202-73-PROOF (202-737-7663).

Hey as an FYI.. if your local laws allow this, then ALL resturants are obligated to do so..not just the one you mentioned.

We had the law changed in Ny a few years ago, and it was funny how many resturants didn't know the scoop...being a ( now retired) professional food server.. it was amusing to go to some fancy place and having to tell the server how to do it.

Knowledge is power though..

That's a great point - I hope all restaurants are as excited to honor it as Proof is!

I beg to differ. While the law "allows" a restaurant to offer the "Merlot-to-go," it is not obligated to do so.

If restaurants are searching for the bags which comply with the new legislation, they can be ordered on-line at http://www.togobrand.com
