Deacon Says: What to do this weekend


Mom's out of town, and so it's time for me to play! Paint the town red this weekend with these fun events:

New: SOLD OUT!! Charm City Cakes
. Owner of the bakery featured on "Ace of Cakes" Chef Goldman discusses his artistic inspiration and creative design process, his time studying at the Corcoran College of Art + Design, and of course, takes questions from the audience.

Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church Festival

2500 pieces of spanakopita, 4500 pieces of baklava and 3000 pieces of diples for the D.C. area's largest and oldest annual Greek Festival. In addition to Greek food, the festival features authentic Greek coffees, beers, wines, and live Greek music, as well as a Greek Marketplace offering books, jewelry and trinkets.

September 19-20.

Rosa Mexicano Festival de Chocolate Cooking Demonstration and Luncheon
Come learn to make and enjoy feasting on several Mexican specialties. Sweet and savory chocolate dishes will be offered a la carte, or enjoyed as a tasting menu, and complimentary chocolate treats served during dining at Rosa Mexicano.

September 20. 10:00am cooking demonstration, 11:30am luncheon. $35 per person.

A mini circus, concerts by the Gin Blossoms and the Rembrandts and a naturalization ceremony for new Gaithersburg citizens are among the highlights of this annual festival in Olde Towne Gaithersburg.

“TXT MSG”
"Where you at?" this exhibition includes "Four Letter Words" by John James Anderson and "Song for Europe" by Mark Cameron Boyd, which explore letters that become icons.

Life Without Leaves
is a photography contest designed to bring to life how the planting and preservation of community trees has a positive impact on the health and beauty of the District.

National Building Museum. Opened September 17, runs through November 2.
The Ride to Thrive Polo Classic.
All proceeds from the Ride to Thrive Polo Classic benefit The Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program. The Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program provides equine assisted activities for children and adults with disabilities, youth-at-risk, veterans, and their families in an inclusive, community setting.
