Site of the Day: Virginia German Shepherd Rescue

Today's site may not be in the 'fashion, food and fun' category, but it is a cause near and dear to our hearts. It's the German Shepherd Rescue organization in Northern Virginia and Maryland. Deacon's sister, Elizabeth, was a rescue Shepherd, and we're thrilled to be able to contribute to this worthy cause.

(The dog on the left is Duke, a nine year old Shepherd given up by his family after they could no longer afford to take care of him. This long-haired boy was raised by the same family since he was a puppy.)

Not sure if you loyal readers out there have dogs of your own, especially not Shepherds, but these dogs are among the smartest, most loyal and loving out there. Many of the dogs on this site have been given up for rescue due to the hardships of their families given today's economic situation, while others were unfortunately abandoned. VGSR helps 'foster' these dogs until they find new, loving homes.

A portion of all proceeds from Friday's Deacon Does DC launch party will go towards assisting these puppies in need.

Site of the Day: Io Moi - Amazing E-Stationary

If there's one thing Deacon knows, it's the value of a sincere thank-you note. We've got boxes and boxes of monogrammed stationary and our signature patterns sitting around the apartment. But sometimes, it's just timlier and even more appropriate to send an e-note.

When that happens, we've become devoted to IoMoi.com, a mostly-free site for sending the cutest e-notes we've seen. You can browse the extensive selection of merchandise for free, and usually send a few sample notes, but a year-long membership is well worth the $15 unlimited fee.

Want to make the jump from electronic to print? Never fear - they've got a full shop of paper products as well.

No need to thank us for the suggestion.

xoxo,
Deacon, aka Emily Post

Site of the Day: CityShopGirl

One of Deacon's favorite places to visit every day is CityShopGirl.com, a new website by Kelly Collis Frederick, former publicist for places like National Jean Company. Each morning, we get a free daily deal directly to our inbox. Previous discounts have included spas, shops, restaurants and even national sites like BagBorroworSteal.com. In today's Frugal Fashionista-friendly economy, it's one place we can definitely get on board with.

Site of the Day: Poseidon Resorts, An Underwater Hotel Chain

We came across this site while researching hotel chains for our day job last week and have been fascinated ever since. Poseidon Resorts, opening in 2010 in Fiji, promises to be the world's first underwater resort chain. It sure looks to fulfill any of those "Little Mermaid" fantasies you've been holding on to ever since seeing the movie back in grade school.

There's a crazy/long section on the site about safety too.

Apparently, there are five such spots in the world, according to an article from CNN/Money, here.

Luxury Insider magazine also has a few deets. As you can tell, the opening dates have been pushed back from 2008 to 2009 and now even to 2010. Sounds awesome, if it ever opens!

Deacon's Site of the Day: Puppy Love

Psst, want to know a secret?

Whenever we're feeling blue, we turn on the puppy cam or head to YouTube for some animal friendly videos.

But today, we're cheering up with a little interior screen clean from this cute pup. Enjoy!

Deacon's Site of the Day: Christian Louboutin

Deacon is mixing things up with a few new features we're testing out in the next few weeks - including new travel picks (Deacon's Destinations) and a soon-to-debut event calendar.

Today, we bring you the first of his "Site of the Day" picks, which aims to be a fun daily diversion and a quick look at some of the picks, people and places Deacon has sniffed out in his research. Many will be related to Deacon's adventures in the District, while others will focus on his other passions of fashion, food, and fun.

First up is the newly-relaunched Christian Louboutin site. Deacon's been a longtime fan of of these red-soled beauties (what can we say, he has a gay dog's instincts when it comes to footwear), but this site is now truly over-the-top in a truly fab Moulin Rouge-esque way.

And, in especially good timing, Louboutin's exclusive "Marie Antoinette" inspired collection, also available for show on the site, debuts in the New York boutique today. At $6,000+ a pair, these babies should stay firmly on the shelf, but they make for great lunchtime browsing from the safe haven of your computer.

If you would like to be considered for "site of the day" submission, shoot him an e-mail to deacondoesdc@gmail.com. Deacon responds to all fan mail!
